Homosexual means being attracted to people of the same binary gender. It is problematic once you move outside the binary because it assumes that there are only two genders. The most common term for a homosexual female is 'lesbian', and the most common term for a homosexual male is 'gay'. These two make up the first two letters of the abbreviation LGBT.
